BOZEMAN, Mont. - An attempted rape suspect who escaped from Bozeman police custody last month and eluded capture for nearly three weeks wasn't the first person to walk out of the Law & Justice Center while in custody. A public records request showed 28-year-old Kevin Briggs' escape was the fourth from the center in the past decade. Police have made several changes following Briggs' escape, including requiring a written tracking form that requires officer signatures when the responsibility for a suspect is transferred to another officer. A work station was installed in an observation room so officers can work while keeping an eye on the interview rooms. Records show a suspect in a mail theft case walked out of the center in October 2004 and juveniles escaped in 2008 and 2011.
