Asphalt executive pleads not guilty to safety violations

MISSOULA, Mont. - A Bitterroot Valley asphalt executive pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of violating federal safety standards.

M.R. Asphalt in Corvallis faces 16 federal violations for failing to provide fall protection after a worker fell 15 feet from a tank, hit his head and died in September 2012.

U.S. District Court documents indicate the president of M.R. Asphalt, Martin Ramano, faces up to 6 months in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.

The company, as a whole, faces up to $500,000 in fines.
