Authorities investigate Butte landfill for remains of missing Anaconda woman
BUTTE, Mont. - Anaconda Police Chief Tim Barkell tells NBC Montana authorities are searching a section of the Butte landfill for the possible remains of Tammy Salle.
According to Barkell, police received a tip that a bin from Anaconda was picked up Christmas Eve that was too heavy to dump without help.
He says garbage from Anaconda has been dumped in a specific section of the landfill and sanitation workers have roped off that area.
Butte-Silver Bow law enforcement are also on the scene helping with the search. As of Tuesday evening nothing had been found.
Police questioned Salle's boyfriend John Goldberg about the disappearance. Goldberg disappeared shortly after.
He turned up dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at a Missoula area truck stop the following weekend.
Authorities say a suicide note left by Goldberg did not say anything about what may have happened to Salle.
