BUTTE, Mont. - Butte-Silver Bow authorities have reported an uptick in theft-related crime over the last few weeks.

One Butte resident had about $3,000 worth of snowmobile equipment stolen from a trailer.

Butte-Silver Bow Undersheriff George Skuletich said the increase follows a familiar pattern at the start of summer.

"It's pretty normal in the summer with kids being out of school and more people roaming around at night. We'll get more, especially vehicle break-ins. People are looking for cash or anything that's not secured," Skuletich said.

Skuletich also said it's important to not leave any valuables in plain sight.

"Don't leave merchandise in your car. Don't leave firearms in your car. Don't leave packages that you just bought in your car. It's an invite for people to look into your car," Skuletich said.

Anyone with theft-related information is asked to contact the Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff's office.
