Christmas tree cutting permits available Monday
MISSOULA, Mont. - Christmas tree cutting permits are available beginning Monday for the Bitterroot National Forest.
They can be purchased for $5 at any Forest Service office or at authorized retailers, including Bob Ward's and Lone Pine Conoco in Hamilton, Mr. T's in Darby, Merc Fresh Market in Corvallis, and Cenex in Stevensville.
Only cash or personal check are accepted.
Fourth graders can receive a free permit, as part of a nationwide initiative, but students must present a valid EKIP Pass, or paper voucher, at their local Forest Service office to receive it. It is not available at vendors, officials said.
