Community comes together to help cattle herd

BOZEMAN, Mont. - The Gallatin County Sheriff's office said they've seen a ton of community outpour after seizing over 100 malnourished cattle from a ranch.

Deputies picked up the herd near Clarkston on Wednesday, after deputies found around 130 cows had been underfed and neglected.

Some of the cows didn't survive the transport, but the others are making a recovery at Headwaters Stockyard north of Three Forks.

Undersheriff Dan Springer said they needed help to feed and care for the cows.

In one day, he said they've received a ton of donations- like hay, money and offers to adopt some of the herd.

He added that Spectators Bar and Grill in Bozeman plans to host a special promotion where some proceeds from burger orders go toward the Sheriff's Cattle Fund.

Anyone who wants to help can call the Gallatin County Animal Control Officer at 580-4800, or make a monetary donation at American Federal Savings Bank under the Sheriff's Cattle Fund.

Springer said they are still investigating the case to decide what, if any, charges to bring against the rancher.
