Construction starts for Bozeman Sports Park
BOZEMAN, Mont. - Construction is just starting for a new multi-million dollar sports park in Bozeman. This project is partly funded by a $15 million trails, open space and parks bond voters approved in 2012.
That bond is paying for several park projects around the city.
The Bozeman Sports Park could cost upwards of $15 million once completed. Only $7.5 million will be funded by the bond. The rest of the money will come from donors and nonprofit organizations.
At 80 acres, the park will include 12 large playing fields, a small dog park and walking trails.
NBC Montana met one man who lives right across the street from the construction site. He's says he's looking forward to the project but sees a downside to it.
"Bozeman needs to expand as the population grows. The plus side is there won't be any buildings blocking my view of my mountains. For me, I see it as positive all the way around. The downside would probably be the increased traffic," said Eric Keown.
The first six fields will be completed by the end of 2017. Through the following spring and summer turf will be installed. The park will be open for play fall 2018.
