Controlled burn in Rattlesnake on Tuesday
MISSOULA, Mont. —
The Missoula Ranger District will conduct a prescribed burn in the Sawmill area of the Rattlesnake Recreation Area on Tuesday. Please take caution and avoid areas of the prescribed burn.
According to the Lolo National Forest Facebook page, "The Sawmill 12 understory prescribed burn is approximately 125 acres. The prescribed burn objectives are to reintroduce low intensity surface fire to the area reducing surface fuel loadings as well as providing for long term ecosystem health and scenic landscapes desirable for recreational use. The planned underburn completes initial prescribed treatment for this unit and allows it to be placed on a maintenance schedule with the intent of reintroducing low-intensity underburns to maintain desired conditions and limit fuel accumulations in the wildland urban interface."
