Costco withdraws zoning application in Missoula
MISSOULA, Mont. - Costco has withdrawn its application to build a new store on West Broadway in Missoula.
The news came in a letter from Costco to the Missoula Development Services.
Costco's regional real estate broker previously told NBC Montana the Missoula store has outgrown its current facility.
He said the Costco off Reserve Street is smaller than traditional Costco stores today. The current location is about 123,000 square feet, and the new facility would have been 154,000 square feet.
No word yet on why the corporation withdrew its application.
The new location was slated to go in off West Broadway near Mary Jane Boulevard.
Residents of the nearby area voiced concerns that they didn't want the traffic in their neighborhood.
There were also concerns about an adjacent area of land that is designated wetlands.
In November members of City Council decided not to vote on a zoning request for the new location so they could review public comment further.
