Crash causes truck to spill 100 to 150 gallons of oil
MISSOULA, Mont. —
Emergency officials responded to an oil spill at mile marker 5 on Highway 93 north or the Wye, west of Missoula.
First responders indicate there’s approximately 100 to 150 gallons of oil that’s spilled. The crash happened around 4:30 p.m.
HazMat crews were called to the scene. Missoula Rural and Frenchtown Fire also responded.
Officials say the spill happened when a tank fell off of a trailer carrying oil.
Mel Holtz with Frenchtown Fire said the spill is a hazard because the oil on the road can be slick especially if it rains.
Traffic was reduced to one lane of traffic
Officials are working with the Montana Department of Transportation to get sand on the road to absorb the oil.
