Crews work to clear Going-to-the-Sun Road

KALISPELL, Mont. - A popular Glacier National Park attraction remains partially closed due to snowy conditions. The Going-to-the-Sun Road over Logan Pass is a tourist destination, but park-goers will have to still wait some time before the road fully opens.

Glacier National Park public affairs officer Lauren Alley says crews are still working to repair avalanche damage, install barriers and clean up the roads.

Currently Going-to-the-Sun remains closed to cars from Avalanche to Jackson Glacier Overlook, but for hikers and bikers it is an opportunity to enjoy the open space.

"It would have been nice to do the Going-to-the-Sun Road, but we've heard that since it's closed from Avalanche further that it's just a great time for biking through that area," said park visitor Erika Veil.

The latest the road has ever opened was July 11, 2011. Last year the road fully opened June 17.
