Date set for Gianforte appearance
BOZEMAN, Mont. - Montana U.S. Rep-elect Greg Gianforte filed an unopposed motion Thursday to appear in court next week to face a misdemeanor assault charge.
The motion states the initial appearance, arraignment and sentencing will take place at Gallatin County Court, June 12 at 10 a.m.
A judge granted Gianforte a two-week extension Tuesday, stating he was to face the charge in court by June 20.
As part of a settlement , Gianforte apologized in a letter Wednesday to Ben Jacobs, the reporter he physically attacked at a campaign event last month.
Gianforte also donated $50,000 to nonprofit group the Committee to Protect Journalists as part of an agreement that settles any civil claims against him.
