Events planned to launch National Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month

MISSOULA, Mont. - April is National Child Abuse Prevention/Awareness Month

The following is a press release from the Parenting Place in Missoula:

On March 31st, at Noon on the front lawn of the Missoula Courthouse, The Parenting Place and other community organizations will join many communities throughout Montana and the nation in recognizing Child Abuse Prevention Month. Speaking out in recognition at this important event will be many parents and community leaders along with Teresa Nygaard, executive director of The Parenting Place.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month and throughout the year, The Parenting Place encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Missoula a better place for children and families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, we can help promote children's social and emotional well-being and prevent child maltreatment within families and communities.

"April is a time to celebrate the important role that communities play in protecting children," said Teresa Nygaard, Executive Director of The Parenting Place. "Everyone's participation is critical. Focusing on ways to build and promote protective factors, in every interaction with children and families, is the best thing our community can do to prevent child maltreatment and promote optimal child development." Our goal is to create #GreatChildhoods.

The Parenting Place is a community-based, non-profit organization whose mission is the prevention of child abuse and neglect through strengthening families. For more information about The Parenting Place contact Teresa Nygaard at or 728-KIDS (5437).
