Fans travel to Butte for last day of state tournament play


MISSOULA, Mont. - Saturday marks the last day of tournament play for the 2017 Class A Boys State Basketball Tournament in Butte.

The Butte Civic Center was a packed house filled with supportive families, friends and fans.

Missoula Resident Connie Kenney says she was excited just to be able to go.

"It is exciting," Kenney said. "We have been here Thursday, Friday and Saturday because we love basketball."

Butte resident Jake Simkins says even though his team, Butte Central didn't win, he's still proud.

"It is very exciting," Simkins said. "It's a big accomplishment for the team and it's good for them."

High school basketball teams had student sections, pep bands and cheerleaders.

Polson resident Steph Irvine says it's all about supporting the kids in her community.

"I love basketball, I love tournament time," Irvine said. "It's so exciting because these kids are great."

The championship game will be held Saturday evening at 8:00 against Billings Central and Dillon.
