Crash on slick highway kills northwest Montana woman

The Montana Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident in the Flathead Valley.

Troopers were dispatched to Highway 40, east of Conn Road, between Whitefish and Columbia Falls at 4:00 Thursday afternoon.

Investigators say a Toyota passenger car slid across the turn lane.

Officials say the driver, an 82-year-old northwest Montana woman, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Troopers say a dump truck coming in the opposite direction could not stop or avoid hitting the Toyota she was in.

The highway patrol says the highway was snow covered and slick.

Two people inside the dump truck were not hurt.

Investigators say the woman who was killed was wearing a seatbelt.
