Ground crews rescue two people west of Blue Mountain Recreation Area
MISSOULA, Mont. - Missoula County Search and Rescue crews retrieved two people stranded west of Blue Mountain Recreation Area on Saturday morning, according to the Missoula sheriff's office. The missing people, a 51-year-old father and his 15-year-old daughter, both from Florida, were driving an ATV when they had mechanical trouble somewhere between Woodman Saddle and Petty Creek. The sheriff's office says the search began at 10 pm Friday night. County police notified Missoula County Search and Rescue, who eventually contacted the Flathead-based Two Bear Air helicopter rescue company. While Two Bear Air were en route, Search and Rescue ground crews located the missing people and coordinated with the helicopter company to get them back to the Blue Mountain trailhead. According to the sheriff's office, the missing people were wet and cold after spending a night in the woods, but did not need hospitalization after they were reunited with family at 8 Saturday morning.
