Hyalite 4th graders celebrate Arbor Day

BOZEMAN, Mont. - The city of Bozeman and Bozeman's Forestry Division organized a ceremonial tree planting at Hyalite Elementary Friday in recognition of Arbor Day.

Fourth graders worked with members of the Forestry Division to inspect and plant a tree outside the school.

The kids were divided into groups of 10, and each group was responsible for a different aspect of the planting process.

City forester Alex Nordquest emphasized the importance of the process.

"The foundation of growing a healthy tree starts right at the planting," Nordquest said. "So we want to have a perfect setup for planting a young tree, and that will maximize the benefits of the tree throughout its lifespan."
