I-15 crash kills woman, teen


BUTTE, Mont. - The Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff's office tells NBC Montana that a Friday morning crash south of Butte on I-15 killed two people and injured three others.

According to officials five people, a mother and her family, were involved in the the single vehicle accident.

Montana Highway Patrol dispatch received reports of the crash between the Melrose and Moose Creek exits around 10:15 a.m.

Troopers investigating say it appears the 16-year-old driver was headed south on I-15 when he over-corrected several times, causing the sport utility vehicle to roll.

Troopers say a 42-year-old woman and another 16-year-old son were killed in the crash. An 11-year-old girl was taken by air ambulance to the hospital; the driver and a 13-year-old girl were transported by ambulance.

Trooper Cody Ruane tells NBC Montana the mother was not wearing her seat belt properly.

According to the Highway Patrol, the SUV appears to be from the Bozeman area. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor.
