Lady Griz fall short of NCAA tourney bid
MISSOULA, Mont. - Women's tournament in Grand Forks, North Dakota
Saturday afternoon the Lady Griz had their season come to a close after losing to North Dakota 72-55 in the Big Sky Conference Championship. Montana was down early in the contest and the Lady Griz were never able to catch up to UND. North Dakota went to the half with a 35-27 lead and it was a very similar second half. North Dakota finished the second half outscoring Montana 37-28 and in the end UND picked up the victory 72-55.
Friday Montana faced a Southern Utah team it split with during the regular season. After losing to the Thunderbirds the last time these two teams met the Lady Griz got redemption Friday beating Southern Utah 73-69. Former Anaconda Copperhead Torry Hill led all Griz with 22 points and former Bozeman Hawk Kellie Cole followed that with 13. Montana will face host North Dakota in Saturday's championship game.
Thursday the Lady Griz played instate rival Montana State for the third time this season. Men's tournament in Ogden, Utah
In the men's conference tournament the two time defending Big Sky Conference champion Montana Grizzlies faced Portland State in the opening round. But the Vikings were too strong down the stretch and recorded the 70-63 victory. Entering Thursday night's game the Grizzlies had won Big Sky tournament titles three of the last four years.
