Missoula man due in court over baseball bat attack
MISSOULA, Mont. —
A 27-year-old Missoula man is due in Justice Court on charges he struck a Special Olympics athlete in the head with a baseball bat last week.
Paul Ekstedt is charged with assault with a weapon on an attack on 37-year-old Gary Fuller last Thursday. Fuller underwent surgery and remains hospitalized.
Ekstedt is scheduled to appear before Justice of the Peace Marie Anderson on Tuesday afternoon.
Prosecutors say a witness told police that she, Ekstedt and Fuller were on their way to dinner last Thursday when Ekstedt struck Fuller in the head, knocking him to the floor. Witnesses said there had been no argument, but that Ekstedt had been acting strangely for the previous 10 days.
Court records say officers believed Ekstedt was under the influence of an unknown substance.
