Missoula noise ordinance will be temporarily changed for work on interchange

The Missoula City Council unanimously approved a waiver for Knife River Construction, the company working on the Van Buren Street Interstate 90 interchange roundabouts.

Knife River will start building the roundabouts in May.

The area where the roundabouts are going in is required to be open during working hours but will need to be closed during parts of construction.

Councilwoman Heidi West says the change in the ordinance will shorten the duration of the project.

“What that allows them to do is to start work a little bit earlier in the morning and work later in the evening or even work weekends if that's necessary. This will be similar to what happened last year at the Orange Street roundabout, so we did that for that project as well. We do recognize that there will be impacts to the citizens that live close to there,” West said.

The change for the noise ordinance is only for the construction of the roundabouts and should be over in October.
