Missoula Walmart stores affected by frozen pizza recall

MISSOULA, Mont. - More than 20,000 pounds of Walmart's Marketside brand pizzas are being recalled due to a possible listeria contamination.

RBR Meat Company Inc. recalled the extra large supreme frozen pizza, which, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, may have been "adulterated with listeria monocytogenes."

NBC Montana checked both Walmart stores in Missoula. Store officials tell us their shelves are clear of any recalled pizza.

Missoula resident Valerie Thompson says she was unaware of the recall, but says she'll take precautions. "I would follow whatever they told me to do and kind of steer away from buying it until I hear that everything has been cleared up," Thompson said.

Missoula resident Darlene Lopez says she purchased the Marketside pizza and will return it if necessary.

"First I would call Walmart to find out what's going on and I would probably return it," Lopez said.

During routine sampling the FSIS discovered the bacteria. The recall is a Class l recall which means it is "a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death," the USDA said.
