New Missoula ice cream shop focuses on local ingredients
MISSOULA, Mont. - The owners of a local Flathead ice cream chain are opening up shop in Missoula.
Marissa and Sam Dauenhauer opened the first Sweet Peaks Ice Cream in Whitefish in 2010.
"The thing about ice cream is that everybody loves it," said Marissa Dauenhauer. "We're in Montana, and the cold weather doesn't seem to bother us."
Since 2010, the couple has opened two more stores in Kalispell and Bigfork, and they're hoping their emphasis on local ingredients and gourmet flavors will find a following in Missoula.
"Missoula seemed like a logical next step for us," said Dauenhauer. "We were really excited to come down here and use some Montana specific products in our ice cream. The location became available, and we found a great manager, and it just seemed like the good thing to do."
Sweet Peaks in Missoula is located at 420 North Higgins, near Jimmy Johns, in downtown Missoula.
They open Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
