Nonprofit creates fund-raiser for girl's funeral costs

BOZEMAN, Mont. - Juliana Currie Lein, 9, died Sunday after falling into Hyalite Creek on a hike, and one local organization is asking for donations to offset the costs of her funeral.

Family Promise of Gallatin Valley, which helps children and families struggling with homelessness, is coordinating a fund-raiser to benefit Lein's family. The nonprofit is seeking $12,000 to pay for airplane tickets and hotel rooms for her relatives so they can attend the service on Friday.

"We'll be helping them pay for their flights, as well as their lodging while they're here," volunteer and outreach manager Christine Armstrong said. "So any leftover expenses, that's what that money is going for."

Armstrong says community members have already donated about $6,000 to the fund. Any donations exceeding the goal of $12,000 will go directly to Lein's family.

Lein's memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. at the Lindley Center on Friday and will be open to the public.
