Organizations team up to make Butte more tourist-friendly
BUTTE, Mont. - Butte-Silver Bow, the MSU School of Architecture and the Community Design Center are teaming up to make Butte more tourist-friendly. The groups met at the Imagine Butte Resource Center to discuss ideas and opportunities for Butte. They call it "wayfinding," which is the use of signs, maps and other methods to help tourists find their way around. MSU students did studies to find out why tourists visit Butte, and reviewed other studies done to improve wayfinding. Some solutions discussed were to document key intersections on maps, put in gateways to prominent places in town and create historic trivia treasure hunt tours. "A lot of ideas were passed around," said Jacob Ballweber, with the Community Design Center. "A lot of opportunities to expand and to take off some of the existing ideas and to go ahead and push in other directions." The organizations plan to publish their findings and put all the ideas and research into a book.
