Park Co. identifies victims in apparent muder-suicide
LIVINGSTON, Mont. - Park County officials identified the two people involved in an apparent murder suicide in Gardiner.
According to Park County Undersheriff Scott Hamilton, Yellowstone National Park Dispatch received a call from a woman at 4:30 p.m.Thursday, saying that she had been shot by a man trying to break into her home.
When Park County deputies and Yellowstone National Park rangers arrived they found Steve Cole, 63, dead and Debi Roberts, 59, in critical condition.
Emergency workers attempted to save Roberts, but she died at the scene.
Both Roberts and Cole were from Gardiner. The Sheriff's Department says initial reports indicated that Roberts and Cole had previously been in a relationship, but not for several years. Authorities indicated that Cole had previously been charged with domestic violence, but did not release the circumstances surrounding the charge.
