Search warrant filed in exchange student shooting case
MISSOULA, Mont. - Investigators are piecing together their case against a Missoula homeowner accused of murdering a German exchange student in his garage.
Court documents say 29-year-old Markus Kaarma confessed to shooting 17-year-old Diren Dede. Police say Dede was looking for alcohol in Kaarma's garage.
NBC Montana obtained a search warrant filed in court. It indicates detectives seized a black upright freezer from inside Kaarma's garage and a white, metal door located between the garage and the interior of the Kaarma's home.
The document indicates a firearms examiner asked detectives to get the property to help him determine how far away Kaarma was when he fired the shotgun and if he was outside the garage, as he claimed he was.
