Unfounded hostage incident led to school lockdown in Polson

MISSOULA, Mont. - Polson police and the Lake County Sheriff's Office are investigating an unfounded hostage incident that forced schools to lockdown.

Polson Police Sergeant George Simpson reports that somebody called 9-1-1 Thursday, claiming to have five hostages inside a Polson home.

Police say the caller said he wanted $5,000 ransom money or else he would kill the hostages.

Authorities briefly locked down Polson Schools while officers investigated.

With the Polson Police Department, the Lake County Sheriff's Office and Lake County E-911 Center all collaborating on the investigation, authorities determined the incident was unfounded and there was no threat to public safety.
