Zootown advances to Senior League World Series

MISSOULA, Mont. - Tuesday night the Senior League Western Regional Softball Tournament wrapped up play with host team Missoula taking first place. With the tournament win Missoula has now clinched a spot at next week's Senior League Softball World Series in Delaware. The Zootown softball team made up of girls aged 14-16 had a dominant showing in the Western Regional Tournament. Their only loss came to Southern California on Sunday. But Zootown would get their revenge in the title game Tuesday night with a 15-10 win over the defending tournament champs. "We just knew that we we're going to have to come back stronger and harder and not be able to make any mistakes and if we do they're going to score," said Zootown shortstop Jaime Schafer. "They went last year, they had the experience, it's nice we really proved that we wanted to go and it's just amazing," said Missoula first baseman Kendall Rauk. Zootown's win was sparked by a monster 3rd inning. Heading into the frame Missoula trailed by one run but by the end of it Zootown had scored 10 runs to take a commanding lead that they would never give back. "That was a huge inning, innings like that they break confidence and they make confidence for others," said Zootown pitcher Macey Newbary. "It was a huge deal, that was amazing to keep us going and just start us off right and get us up on the board," added Rauk. With the regional tournament title Missoula will now represent the Western United States in the Senior League Softball World Series which begins next week in Delaware. "It means a lot, I get to go over to a part of this country that I've never been to and I get to go with a great group of girls," said Newbary. "We are all so incredibly pumped, we didn't want anything more than this," said Rauk. "It means the world to everyone," said Schafer. "It's a kid dream of mine personally I know there's a lot of girls that's their dream ever to go to the world series." Zootown's first game at the World Series will be on Monday August 3rd against Canada.
