Zootown falls to Indiana 5-0 in SLWS
Saturday afternoon the Zootown softball team fell 5-0 to Indiana at the Senior League Softball World Series in Sussex County, Delaware. It was a defensive battle for both teams through the first three innings of play. Then, in the fourth inning Indiana took a 1-0 lead after scoring a run on a wild pitch. Things did not get any better for Zootown, in the fifth inning two errors and a single to center field proved to be costly as Indiana increased the lead to four runs. Heading into the final inning of play Zootown needed a five run rally to keep the game going, but the team representing the Western United State was unable to score any runs and took second place in the tournament losing to Indiana 5-0. Indiana pitcher Nichole Kirkpatrick did not make it easy for Zootown, she pitched all seven innings and struck out six batters while allowing no runs. Kirkpatrick also gave up just two hits in the entire game. Central never trailed in the contest after jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Zootown lost its opening game to Canada, but bounced back winning four-straight games to earn a spot in the World Series championship game. Zootown becomes the first team ever from Missoula to make it to the Senior League Softball World Series.
