Baldridge named Gatorade Player of the Year

MISSOULA, Mont. - In 2016 the Hellgate boys soccer team ended their season with a second straight class AA state championship, their third in the past six years.

On Monday Matt Baldridge was singled out for his contributions in helping the Knights to a 13-win season, being named this season's Gatorade Player of the Year for boys soccer in Montana.

As just a sophomore midfielder, Baldridge scored nine goals on the season and passed for 12 assists. The latter number of which was the best in the state.

Off the field Baldridge is an accomplished pianist while also maintaining a 3.36 GPA at Hellgate High and he also volunteers as a youth soccer coach.

Baldridge is the third Hellgate Knight to win the prestigious Gatorade award and the second in a row after Peter Byrne landed the honor last season.
