Griz announce newest #37
MISSOULA, Mont. - With senior Caleb Kidder graduating, this off-season was the second in a row that the Grizzly football team was in search for a new player to wear the #37 legacy jersey. Kidder has made that decision on who his successor will be.
The team announced on Wednesday that #37 will now belong to defensive end Tucker Schye of Malta, who will be a red-shirt senior for the Grizzlies next season.
Schye received the news in a phone conversation with Kidder on Christmas Day. An exciting moment for the young man but certainly one he's earned.
Over the past two years Schye has played in every game for the Grizzlies with 38 career appearances to date. The defensive end has racked up 63 career tackles with 12.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
Those numbers are even more impressive when you consider the likes of Caleb kidder and Zack Wagenmann that he's lined up with over that time.
Schye becomes the 13th Grizzly to wear the jersey since the tradition was created back in the 1980's, when Kraig Paulson passed the jersey down to Tim Hauck.
Here's a list of each Griz selected to wear the coveted jersey:
Kraig Paulson - Fullback, 1983-86, Plentywood Tim Hauck - Safety, 1987-89, Big Timber Todd Ericson - Safety, 1990-93, Butte Jason Crebo - Linebacker, 1994-97, Helena Andy Petek - Defensive End, 1998-00, Helena Ciche Pitcher - Defensive End, 2001-03, Anaconda Loren Utterback - Linebacker, 2004-07, Fort Benton Carson Bender - Defensive Tackle, 2008-10, Deer Lodge Ryan Fetherston - Defensive End, 2011, East Helena Jordan Tripp - Linebacker, 2012-13, Missoula Zack Wagenmann - Defensive End, 2014, Missoula Caleb Kidder - Defensive End, 2015-16, Helena Tucker Schye - Defensive End, 2017, Malta
