Karl Nicholas leaving Grizzly basketball

Karl Nicholas reacts after throwing down a dunk during a game his freshman season with the Grizzlies.

One week after three Grizzly basketball players announced their departure from the program, that number is now up to four with another underclassmen looking for increased play time somewhere else.

Of those four, this one had the biggest impact this past season. Freshman Karl Nicholas announced via twitter on Thursday that he is leaving Montana with the intent to transfer.

Nicholas thanked the Grizzly program and the city of Missoula in his tweet but decided it's best for him to pursue other opportunities.

The 6-foot-8 forward played in 30 of Montana's 34 games this season. He scored just over 100 points on the season with 68 rebounds and 12 blocks.

Nicholas hit double figures in scoring four times with a season best of 17 points against North Dakota in early January.

The Texas native was the first player ever from the Lone Star State to suit up for the maroon and silver.
