Loyola ready to repeat as state champs
MISSOULA, Mont. - The Missoula Loyola football team will be fighting for their second straight class 'B' title on Saturday as well as their second straight undefeated season.
"Two seasons undefeated so far, we want to continue that," said senior Forestt Cooper. "Everyone is just so excited for this, another state championship and we want to bring home the title again and put another banner up in the rack."
Loyola has advanced this far with playoff victories over Forsyth, Red Lodge and Boulder to extend their current winning streak to 22 games, easily the best of any team in the state.
But just like last year the Rams will have to take to the road to get a title, all the way in Baker, nearly 600 miles away from home.
"Well here we are, we've got another shot at it so that's a good deal for us," said Rams head coach Dan Weber. "The team we're playing Baker... well there's a reason why they're undefeated. You look at it and it's like going into Malta last year, they were undefeated as well and that was a knock down drag out affair that we finally came out on top of. We're expecting nothing less than that from Baker."
However these seniors are confident about their chances, especially having been in this same situation one year ago.
"Definitely a monkey was off our back once we won the first one so it's been not such a learning experience as the first one was" said senior Zach Hollenback. "We kind of know what we need to do and we're ready to go out and do what we feel we need to do win another state championship."
