Montana-Wyoming high school basketball series returns

Montana-Wyoming high school basketball series returns.

MISSOULA, Mont. - The high school basketball season has been wrapped up for quite some time now, but some of the best players around western Montana will get to lace them up one more time this weekend.

The Montana-Wyoming All-Star Series returns Friday and Saturday. Games will be played at Sheridan College in Wyoming on Friday and will move to Rocky Mountain College in Billings on Saturday. The girls games will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and the boys games will start at 7:30 p.m. both days.

For the girls team, two class AA seniors from Kalispell will look to make an impression.

Nikki Krueger (Glacier) averaged 12 points per game for the Wolfpack in her senior season and finished third in class AA with 8.7 rebounds per game.

The Flathead Bravettes will be sending Tiana Johnson. She earned herself the invite by leading all of class AA girls hoops last season with 17 points per game and also finished second in free throw percentage shooting 76-percent from the stripe.

Also, an impressive resume gets even stronger for Kiara Burlage. The Columbia Falls senior won a state championship in volleyball last season and also the school's first basketball state title in more than three decades. Now she will be playing with the best of the best from her state.

The boys roster will get one more player from Flathead county. Jaxen Hashley, a senior from Glacier High School helped lead the school to its first-ever state championship this year. All he did in his final season was average a double-double with 16 points per game and a conference leading 11.9 rebounds per game.

Also representing western Montana on the boys roster is another 2017 state champion. Ty Tanner led the Arlee boys to their first state championship this March. Tanner averaged nearly 20 points and 6 rebounds per game this season for the Warriors. Tanner also signed to play basketball with Dawson Community College this week.
