MSU women lose to Washington in NCAA Tournament
MISSOULA, Mont. - The Montana State Bobcats women's basketball team put up a fight in the first half, but the second half was all Huskies. Washington defeated the Cats 91-63 in Seattle on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Peyton Ferris led all scorers, finishing her career with 33 points against the Huskies. Riley Nordgaard was the other Bobcat in double figures, as she had 10 points.
The Cats were able to get out to a strong start in this one as Delany Junkermier hit a three-pointer just before the first quarter buzzer sounded. MSU led 17-16 after the first quarter.
Washington would get their act together in the second quarter though. They outscored the Cats 22-10 and took a 38-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, the Huskies broke away from MSU. Women's Basketball's all-time leading scorer Kelsey Plum got her team going as the Huskies finished with 53 second half points.
It is extremely rare for a 14 seed to upset a 3 seed on its home court in the tournament, but Montana State left everything out on the floor.
The Bobcats can look back with a smile on the best season in program history. Finishing with a school record 25 wins this season.
