MSU's Douglass named Big Sky Field Athlete of the Week
BOZEMAN, Mont. —
The Montana State University track and field team has been on a roll so far in the outdoor season. A Bobcat has now won a Big Sky Conference Athlete of the Week award for the fourth-straight week.
This week, the honor goes to senior thrower Kyle Douglass, who has been named the Big Sky Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after his performance in the shot put. The Missoula native finished fifth at the Beach Invitational in California on Saturday with a throw of 60 feet, and 1.25 inches.
That is a new personal best for Douglass in the outdoor shot put, and moves him up to second in MSU history in the event. He is now just nine inches off the school record, and he maintains his spot atop of the Big Sky Conference performance list.
Douglass ranks 15th in the West Region and 34th in Division I in the shot put. He is also the Big Sky leader in the discus, and ranks 26th in the region and 48th in the nation in that event with a throw of 179 feet, five inches.
This is the fifth time Douglass has won the weekly conference award. He was previously named the Big Sky Men's Field Athlete of the Week twice during the indoor season.
Bobcat senior sprinter Amanda Jaynes won back-to-back Big Sky Women’s Track Athlete of the Week awards before Douglass, while senior thrower Calvin Root won the Big Sky Men’s Field Athlete of the Week award back on April 3.
