Strahm named Defensive Player of the Week
MISSOULA, Mont. - The Griz football team handed Northern Arizona their first Big Sky Conference loss of the season 17-15 on Saturday in a wild game in which both teams were forced to play inexperienced quarterbacks.
However the Griz defense did enough to lead Montana to victory. On Monday, Connor Strahm was recognized for his efforts, being named the ROOT Sports Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
"The win is a lot bigger than the award. My mom is probably more excited than I am about it," said Strahm on Monday. "It just shows our good team defense. Jesse Sims and David Shaw right in front of me makes things pretty easy."
The senior linebacker led Montana with 16 tackles on Saturday along with one sack, 2.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble that led to Montana's only offensive touchdown of the day.
Overall the Griz defense was solid across the board, limiting NAU to 15 points while recording seven sacks in the game and 10 tackles for loss.
"Couldn't be more proud of these guys," added UM head coach Bob Stitt. "The way Connor played and all the guys. You can hardly single guys out because everybody is coming up with big plays."
Despite missing two games this season, Strahm currently ranks third on the team in tackles with 62.
