UM's Hood named Pitcher of the Week
MISSOULA, Mont. - It's been an impressive start to the year for the Griz softball team and a true freshman in the circle has been a big part of that success.
Michaela Hood is coming off another terrific week and Wednesday, the ace was named the Big Sky Conference Pitcher of the Week for her efforts.
Hood threw three complete games last week, picking up one win against Boise State and two wins over the weekend against North Dakota. In Sunday's victory over the Hawks she set a new program record by striking out 12 batters in a single game.
In 21 innings of work last week, Hood recorded an impressive ERA of just 1.00 while striking out 26 batters.
The freshman player out of Las Vegas has won her last 7 decisions in a row for Montana. Hood (8-2) now has 8 wins on the year which is 2nd best in the Big Sky and her season ERA of 2.38 ranks 3rd in the conference.
Montana is in a three-way tie for first place in the Big Sky standings with a 2-1 start. The Grizzlies also have the best overall record in the conference at 17-17.
This coming weekend the Griz will have a great chance to improve their spot in the standings as they play host to Southern Utah for a three-game series on Friday and Saturday.
