WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - I am so sick and tired of the inaction in Congress. Remember DACA?
That is the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
Democrats shut down the government in January because Republicans had not offered a solution on what to do about the illegal immigrants who came here as children and are eligible for DACA.
Since then, President Trump has extended an olive branch. He proposed a path to citizenship for all those who are eligible for DACA as long as Congress ends chain migration, ends the visa lottery and provides real funding for border security.
Immigration reform, including DACA, was debated in the Senate. None of the four proposed measures were passed.
Now, DACA may be caught up in the courts until spring or summer of next year, 2019. That is when the Supreme Court will rule on whether the president is allowed to end DACA.
We have seen that Congress rarely acts without a deadline. There have been two government shut downs just this year to prove that point.
If Democrats are really so concerned about the DACA program, why didn’t they accept the President’s proposal?
Here is the bottom line: the Democrats are more concerned with opposing the president at every turn than actually resolving the fate of hundreds of thousands of people who fall under DACA. This is just plain wrong and another example of crippling gridlock in Congress that is ruining our country.
