Congress reaches agreement on new spending bill and Sen. Rand Paul is still fighting it
WASHINGTON, D.C. (TND) -- Congress has reached an agreement on a $1.7 trillion spending bill and Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, isn't happy about it. He's also questioning how quickly it's being pushed through.
"Four thousand one hundred fifty-five pages. When was it produced? In the dead of the night, 1:30 in the morning, when it was released," Paul said.
Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-NY, says the agreement took a while but it's all ready to be voted into law. He announced the agreement when he took the senate floor on Thursday morning.
Paul thinks Congress should have more time to look over all the spending and he's even calling the bill a threat to our national security.
"I think the greatest risk to our national security is our debt. The process stinks , it's an abomination, it's a no good rotten way to run your government . Six trillion dollar entity and they want 24 hours to process this and then they want to go forward," Paul said.
He's calling the bill the "Pelosi-Schumer" bill. Paul printed out the bill for a news conference on Tuesday and he spoke next to the table with 4,000-plus page bill stacked on top of it.
"The American people don't want this, they're sick and tired of it, and they're paying for this through the nose, with inflation," Paul said.
Schumer reference the bad weather approaching as an incentive to vote the bill through quickly.
"As we know the storm is coming, we want to have people vote to get the bill done but then be able to go home," Schumer said on the Senate floor on Thursday morning.
