A local canine camp teaches kids a unique lesson
MISSOULA, Mont. —
A one of a kind camp in Missoula shows how shelter dogs inspire and educate children.
It’s camp season and a local organization is allowing kids to interact with animals from over a thousand miles away.
The Humane Society of Western Montana is offering three campus this summer and the one we attended is called California Littles Canine Camp.
The camp started in 2012, where small breed dogs are shipped from a shelter in California to Montana to be adopted. The operations are coordinated through a rescue called New Beginnings.
In this specialized camp, these kids ages seven through eleven interact with the dogs and learn about dog socialization, dog behavior, and spaying and neutering.
The organization offers this camp for two weeks throughout the summer. We’re told the Humane Society of Western Montana is the only organization in Missoula that does this program.
It’s a chance for these kids to meet new friends of both the two legged and four legged varieties.
