Accumulating snow Wednesday

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY late tonight through early Thursday for all of northwest Montana, including the Flathead and Mission Valleys and all of west central Montana, excluding the Missoula and Bitterroot Valleys. Snowfall of 5 to 10 inches in the mountains, 3 to 6 inches in the northwest valleys and 1 to 4 inches in all other areas, including the Missoula and Bitterroot Valleys along with southwest Montana, including the Butte and Bozeman areas.

A storm system will drop south out of Canada late Tuesday night and Wednesday. Snow will develop around Kalispell around 5 am Wednesday and by mid morning in Missoula. The snow will spread to the Butte and Bozeman areas by afternoon. Accumulating snow is likely Wednesday night area wide and lingering in the morning Thursday around Butte and Bozeman.

Arctic air will move back into the region behind this storm. Highs will drop from the 30s Wednesday to the 20s to lower 30s on Thursday.

Another storm system will bring snow to the region Friday through the weekend. This one will be stronger and will also be accompanied by a lot of wind as arctic air interacts with Pacific moisture.
