BOZEMAN, Mont. — The Gallatin Valley Mall opened in Bozeman 40 years ago, but soon it won’t look the same. On Thursday, the Gallatin Mall Group, which runs the mall, announced a plan for redesigning it.
John Morrow, managing partner of the mall, says despite the pandemic, the mall fared well.
“We’ve had several retailers, believe it or not, who have had record sales,” said Morrow.
The redesign plan for the 37-acre property includes major construction and 15,000 additional feet of retail space.
“The direction we’re headed is really a direction that functions much better in a pandemic world,” Morrow said.
The new mall will also feature ample outdoor space, restaurants with outdoor seating and plenty of room to social distance.
But the biggest new draw for the project -- a Whole Foods grocery store.
It will be the first Whole Foods in the state of Montana.
Morrow says securing a client like Whole Foods generated a lot of excitement about the project.
“We’re starting to get a lot of interest from retailers who you might not have expected to want to come to a market as small as Bozeman,” said Morrow.
Construction will start spring 2021, but for now, Morrow hopes residents are looking forward to what’s to come.
