Bozeman, Mont — In Bozeman, organizers held a memorial service Wednesday dedicated to remembering neighbors who passed away while homeless this past year.
Community members gathered inside the Bozeman Public Library for National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day. There was a candlelight vigil, messages of hope and a moment of silence.
National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day takes place each year on the longest night of the year.
Communities across the country organize local memorials to honor the national holiday.
“Even in a place like Bozeman that is so fortunate, we still have people that are struggling and that we have lost in our community,” HRDC CEO Heather Grenier said.
This year in Bozeman, four people lost their lives due to frigid temperature or exposure-related causes. Last year, that number was nine.
