The first quarter campaign finance reports are out for the 2020 political season, and we dug into the reports for the race for one of Montana’s U.S. Senate seats, a race the whole country will likely be watching closely.

Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock just entered the race last month after months of speculation. In three weeks, his campaign raised more than $3.3 million. He’s spent a little more than $115,000, leaving him with about $3.2 million in the bank. His campaign says $1.2 million of that came within the first 24 hours of his announcement.

Republican incumbent Sen. Steve Daines raised $1.3 million in the first quarter. But to-date he has raised more than $7 million in contributions. He has just over $5.6 million in cash on hand.

We know the COVID-19 pandemic is having a major impact on every part of our lives, including the 2020 campaign season. It will likely change how it looks and the amount of money raised.

We’ll be watching this race closely and keep you updated as we march closer to November.
