Oliver, a Persian cat, has been reunited with his family after traveling to Missoula from just outside of Boise, ID.

AniMeals, a no-kill animal adoption center in Missoula, shared Oliver's story on their Facebook page.

They said Oliver disappeared from Mountain Home, ID, just outside of Boise on Aug. 18. His owners said he's not an outdoor cat, so it was unusual for Oliver to be missing. They posted missing signs all over the neighborhood and on social media.

Oliver was found near Alberton on Aug, 22. After giving the cat a bath, the person who found Oliver took him to AniMeals on Aug. 24.

AniMeals posted Oliver on social media that night and connected with his owners by the night after.

The family made the 365 mile drive to retrieve Oliver on Thursday. They said they don't know how he got out. AniMeals said he could've hitched a ride in or on a car that made it all the way to Missoula.

AniMeals said there are several lessons to learn from Oliver's story. The first is to microchip your pet. Oliver was not microchipped but will be before he returns home. If not for social media, Oliver likely wouldn't have found his owners.

They also said to share lost/found pets on Instagram, Facebook, Pawboost and Next Door.
