Driver hospitalized after SUV rolled into river

East Broadway in Missoula was blocked Monday morning after an SUV rolled into the Clark Fork River near the intersection of North Easy Street and East Broadway.

Crews found a large black SUV on its top in 3 to 4 feet of icy water.

A single occupant was located in the vehicle and was extricated and taken to St. Patrick Hospital 11 minutes after first responders arrived.

The patient’s condition is unknown at this time.

The following was sent out by Dave Wolter, Battalion Chief Missoula Fire Department:

At 8:30 am, 911 reported a vehicle that rolled into the river near the intersection of N Easy St and E. Broadway.

Missoula Fire Department responded with two engines, a ladder truck, rescue raft and command vehicle.

On scene crews found a large black SUV on its top in 3 to 4 feet of icy water. Crews quickly accessed the vehicle while wearing cold water suits and located a single occupant.

Occupant was extricated and transported to St. Pats hospital within 11 minutes of arrival.

The patient’s condition is unknown at the time of this release.

One FF was transported with a minor eye injury.

Crews remained on scene and assisted tow company in securing vehicle for recovery.

The means alert has been lifted in Missoula, all lanes at East Broadway in Missoula are reopened after a crash blocked east and west bound lanes..
