BUTTE, Mont. — A North Dakota man is behind bars Wednesday after authorities say he led Butte-Silver Bow police on a high-speed pursuit last night.
“It started out as a stolen vehicle. We responded to Red Line Sports on a stolen motorcycle early in the afternoon,” said Butte-Silver Bow Under Sheriff George Skuletich.
According to Skuletich, Jakob Maners told Red Line Sports employees he wanted to take the Honda Shadow out for a test drive. Then he drove off and didn’t come back.
Officers searched the area but couldn’t find Maners.
Tuesday evening officers responded to a call about a male acting strangely in the Super 8 Hotel parking lot.
“He said he was staying in a hotel nearby and that he was going to walk over to that hotel. Officers went over to check with that hotel to see if he was registered there. They said he wasn’t. They went back to check on the male and they saw him exiting the parking lot on the Honda Shadow,” said Skuletich.
That’s when the high-speed chase down Harrison Avenue began -- reaching speeds up to 80 miles an hour. Police say the pursuit lasted about 5 to 10 minutes before Maners surrendered without issue.
Maners is being charged with possession of stolen property, motor vehicle theft and eluding police officers
