MISSOULA, Mont. — New data shows the majority of Montanans responding to the 2020 Census are using its new online platform.
Officials with the United States Census say despite affects of COVID-19, response numbers nationwide are right on track compared to years past.
On Friday, the website reported 44.5% of Montanans already submitted their response, compared to 54.4% nationwide.
Nearly 85% of Montanans who already submitted their 2020 Census used the internet.
Census officials tell NBC Montana they stopped sending employees door to door because of the coronavirus. That means many residents in rural areas of Montana may not have received their forms yet.
"We were in the process of delivering those invitations when we suspended our operations, so there are a number of households that haven't gotten their invitation yet," said Dennis Johnson, Deputy Regional Director for the U.S. Census Burea. "So as soon as we're able to start that process again, we will continue delivering those, and I think that will help us to get right on track, and get additional responses in from many of our people."
